Music at Friern Barnet School places an emphasis on practical musicianship for all learners, coupled with a firm understanding of performance and composition techniques.
From the first unit in Year 7, students are taught basic skills on the ukulele. This enables them to use an instrument in future performances and compositions. In addition to this, students are encouraged to play keyboard, guitar, bass, drums and many other instruments, as well as ensemble singing in class settings. To further develop the potential of our students we run a wide range of extra-curricular clubs including an orchestra, jazz band, gospel choir and music technology club.
GCSE Music helps students to develop a critical ear for different types of music, including popular, classical, film and world. The course covers composing, performing and listening. We follow the Eduqas specification for GCSE Music. The full specification can be downloaded using the link below:
