YEAR 10

PRODUCT DESIGN

Product Design looks at all aspects of designing and making a variety of products. Students can experiment with a wide range of materials from the woods, metals and plastics to food, textiles and smart and modern materials. Processes and finishes are explored along with product development, design movements and industrial production.

Students are assessed through a 45 hour piece of coursework worth 60% of their grade and an exam worth 40%.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY

Food Technology allows the students to gain a deeper understanding of the food they eat. This subjects covers not only how to make a wide variety of dishes but also where foods come from, how they are processed, packaged, enhanced and used in the making of different foods.

Students are assessed through a 45 hour piece of coursework worth 60% of their grade and an exam worth 40%.

TEXTILES TECHNOLOGY

Textiles Technology allows students to explore all aspects of the textiles industry through a variety of design and make projects. Students can experiment with a wide range of materials and processes, both traditional and modern and use these to design and make for identified needs and target users. Students are assessed through a 45 hour piece of coursework worth 60% of their grade and an exam worth 40%. On completion of their coursework, students spend their lesson time revising and preparing for their final exam in June.
