Creative Arts

Leading our specialist focus on the performing arts, the Creative Arts Faculty is one of the largest and most active in school. Staff work across four main teaching areas, delivering subjects in Art, Dance, Drama and Music at KS3 and GCSE. In addition, we provide an extensive year-round extra-curricular programme, a packed schedule of shows and performances, community outreach projects and ongoing support in training teachers to implement creative methods throughout the curriculum.

Overview of curriculum

Key Stage 3

Students receive weekly lessons within the curriculum for Art, Dance, Drama and Music, learning and developing skills and techniques in each subject. Students have the opportunity to develop their performance and presentation skills through the study of key styles, concepts and professional practitioners. Student work is assessed at the end of each half term, or at the end of an extend project. Students are encouraged to be reflective learners by reviewing their work, evaluating their strengths and weaknesses and setting clear targets in order to excel and achieve.

Key Stage 4

Students are able to select GCSEs in Art and Design, Dance, Drama and Music, with Subject Specialists leading these courses. Students are encouraged to develop their skills to a high level through their studies within school and also by accessing professional works at art galleries, theatre performances and workshops with visiting practitioners.
