Science

Curriculum Statement

Students will be:

  • Engaged: we will provide opportunities to maintain and foster pupils’ interest and excitement for learning about the world around them through a diverse and challenging curriculum
  • Knowledgeable: students will develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • Skilled: students will develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • Prepared: students are equipped with a good basis of scientific, mathematical and literacy skills needed for the Key Stage 4 course, which they can then build on, develop and apply

We will achieve this by:

  • Engaged: lessons have concepts relating to everyday science applications, with tasks that challenge every student. Teachers deliver lessons with enthusiasm and passion, with strong subject knowledge
  • Knowledgeable: provide a holistic approach to science, by giving students the knowledge and skills to explore the world around them. Activities are tailored to match the specification
  • Skilled: students will experience a wide variety of science practical investigations for each science subject, and develop these practical skills to transfer from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 and beyond
  • Prepared: all schemes of works have tasks which link to scientific enquiry, mathematical and literacy skills students need at key stage 4. The curriculum provides an opportunity for students to practice and develop these skills
