Eco friendly school
Climate change is one of the most important issues facing us today. The increasing level of carbon dioxide is the main cause of recent global warming and it stays in the atmosphere for many thousands of years. Even if we stopped emitting all greenhouse gases today, global warming and climate change will continue to affect future generations. Earth’s climate has been relatively stable for the past 10,000 years, and this stability has allowed our modern civilization to develop. As our climate changes, we will need to adapt. The faster the climate changes, the more difficult it will be.
Climate change is a global issue but felt at a local level. This means schools and their local communities must take action to reduce the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere as well as make adjustments to reduce the risks of the harmful effects of climate change.
We are using this page of the website to show what we are doing at Friern Barnet School, including our contractors and suppliers. Furthermore, our Student Parliament takes an active interest in reducing our carbon footprint. The causes and effects of climate change are covered in the school curriculum; this includes providing opportunities to discuss some of the moral and political implications involved. Please send us your suggestions and comments about anything else you think we can be doing.
