Design and Technology - Curriculum Statement

Students will:

  • Develop an understanding of how materials are used and manipulated to create products
  • Develop an understanding of how products are made in school and industry
  • Learn how to critically evaluate existing products
  • Develop their practical skills in all material areas
  • Use metacognition skills to help them overcome problems and make progress in all areas
  • Be able to communicate ideas using a variety of skills ranging from sketching to CAD work
  • Develop an understanding of the impact materials, processes & products have on the environment
  • Develop their creativity when designing and developing their own work
  • Be encouraged to produce work to a high standard and to critically evaluate their own work and progress
  • By the end of KS3, have a foundation of skills and knowledge to be able to successfully tackle the DT GCSE curriculum 

We will achieve this by:

  • Developing and providing an enjoyable and diverse curriculum that creates a foundation of knowledge and skills that all pupils can access
  • Developing students as autonomous learners in and out of the classroom

 

Textiles - Curriculum Statement

Students will:

  • Develop an understanding of how fibres and fabrics are used and manipulated to create textile products
  • Develop an understanding of how textile products are made in school and industry
  • Learn how to critically evaluate existing textile products.
  • Develop their practical skills in all material areas
  • Use metacognition skills to help them overcome problems and make progress in all areas
  • Be able to communicate ideas using a variety of skills ranging from sketching to CAD work
  • Develop an understanding of the impact materials, processes & textile products have on the environment
  • Develop their creativity when designing and developing their own work
  • Be encouraged to produce work to a high standard and to critically evaluate their own work and progress
  • By the end of KS3 have a foundation of skills and knowledge to be able to successfully tackle the Art Textile GCSE curriculum

We will achieve this by:

  • Developing and providing an enjoyable and diverse curriculum that creates a foundation of knowledge and skills that all pupils can access
  • Developing students as autonomous learners in and out of the classroom
